My new band TROIKA is playing at the Wunderbar tomorrow night along with locals ANTHESIAC

This is my first time playing drums live in public for over 8 years so it will be both exciting and frightening at the same time!!!!

Our myspace has some really rough recordings (done via a laptop mic!) but it does give you an idea of our sound.

Hope to see some of you there!!

MORRISSEY NZ Tour Update

A couple of months back I posted news that Morrissey was scheduled to play NZ at the start of his 2009 World Tour in January.
According to various fan websites it appears the NZ portion has been altered to follow the US leg of the tour..

"..US dates will now precede the projected tours of New Zealand and Australia for 2009. "Years of refusal" now has a release date of February 23rd, which will also see the start of a lengthy US tour. New Zealand and Australia will now follow the US dates.."

Looking at the tour schedule that would mean around late April at this stage as there is a 2 week gap between the US & Europe legs.

Fingers crossed - as soon as I hear confirmation I will post the details!!

According to www.morrissey-solo.com Morrissey is to commence his 2009 World Tour in New Zealand with January shows booked in Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland and Dunedin before he travels to Australia to play Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Thieves steal Joy Division memorial

Thieves have stolen a memorial stone for Ian Curtis, frontman of the influential British post-punk band Joy Division.

The stone, bearing the epitaph "Love Will Tear Us Apart" - the title of the band's most famous song - was taken from Macclesfield Crematorium in northern England on Monday or Tuesday, police said.

Fans from all over the world would travel to the site to pay their respects, often leaving messages and tokens behind.

A married man, Curtis committed suicide in 1980 at the age of 23, shortly before the band, an inspiration for many other groups and musicians, were due to begin a US tour.

He had struggled to deal with the demands of combining home life and being in the band, the strain of epilepsy and falling in love with another woman. His personal troubles were often reflected in dark, painful lyrics, which he wrote.

Local officials have appealed for the stone's return.

"I'm shocked this has happened," said Bill North of Macclesfield Borough Council.

"Someone's gone to a great deal of trouble to remove the memorial stone and I hope our appeal will help return it as soon as possible."

Curtis's widow Debbie had been informed, the council said.

"This is a very unusual theft and I am confident that someone locally will have knowledge about who is responsible or where the memorial stone is at present," said police Inspector Gareth Woods.

Curtis returned to prominence after two films about his life were released last year. After his death, the three other members of Joy Division went on to form the successful band New Order.

I have also decided to make use of the new drumkit and try and get back into a band and have an audition type jam thing on Wednesday. Hope I'm not too rusty!!

Due to rising petrol costs I now take the bus to & from work.
I had an interesting ride in this morning.
Was sat behind 2 middle aged mentally handicapped men.
Everytime someone got on the bus & walked past one of them he would ask what their name was.
When the commuter replied he then asked how you spelt it !! Bloody hilarious!!! This happened to every person!!

Not more to report... Next Sanctuary is coming up on the 4th of July & will be the most musically diverse one yet - should be a goody!!

I have already seen this doco & it is very well put together with interviews from a host of interesting characters including Ian's mistress, Annik.

Reading the reviews for the Welly & Auckland gigs they are playing for almost 2.5hrs including a lot of old material!!!

DJ'ed at Cartel last night - was happy with my set & had a few compliments from the crowd which was comforting!
Can be difficult playing at a new venue & not knowing what works & what doesn't.

Anyway, I will be back there at some stage in the near future!

for PIG OUT....I'm sorry I just don't get them!

If you are gonna play 15-20 min songs you HAVE to make them interesting!!!
They were outclassed by the other main acts & really didn't fit into the lineup - perhaps a mistake by the organisers?
And BTW Kit's vocal style of ripping off Shaun Ryder from the Happy Mondays just rubs even more salt in!

Some tracks start off very promising - yeah, I love good electro music and some of the sounds are rather cool but i'm a sucker for a catchy chorus and a great melody - which were absent thru out most songs.

Please tell me why don't I get them?? They apparently have quite a following...

Just found out that one of my favourite bands, 'Sonic Youth', is playing a one-off show in Auckland the same week we are up there for 'Interpol'. yay!!!
